Ryan struggled being overweight growing up. At 17 he found a new life in fitness after losing 75 pounds through running, swimming, and following a healthy diet. Ryan was later introduced to CrossFit and discovered there was more to fitness than he imagined. CrossFit could make you strong enough to overcome nearly any challenge life presented — from running and swimming, to lifting and climbing.

Ryan is experienced instructing clients from ages 5 to 70, from fitness levels between sedentary and very athletic. He strives to build communities that work together toward invigorating lifestyles and accomplishing their goals.

Fitness has always been a major focus of Josh's life, having played basketball through childhood and college in Northern California. While pursuing his Physiology degree at Chico State University, Josh helped instruct strength and conditioning classes, as well as privately train clients. However, it was not until Josh found CrossFit that his real passion for fitness ignited.

Josh continues to expand his knowledge of fitness, refining what he faqs and passing it to the community. He promises a brighter and healthier future to every person willing and dedicated, to achieve goals that may have seemed impossible.

Christobal led an active lifestyle up until his senior year of high school. After graduating he became sedentary and made unhealthy eating habits. At the age of 23 he decided it was time to start exercising again and begin consuming a nutritious diet to fuel his body. His focus was on exercise that would improve his aesthetics.

It wasn't until Christobal met coach Ryan, who introduced him to the world of Crossfit, that his idea of fitness would be revolutionized. Through Crossfit he realized his body was physically capable of much more than the limitations his mind set. His fitness journey is just beginning and he hopes to inspire everyone he meets along the way.

MORGAN KAROLYI
COACH

QUALIFICATIONS

From a young age, Morgan began a 9 year long competitive gymnastics participant, and eventually transitioned to weightlifting. During her time at Chico State she was introduced to CrossFit, which involved aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, and other sports she had played. She quickly realized that being well rounded as an athlete and acquiring all traits of physical fitness was important to her future health.

Morgan is excited to share her love of fitness with everyone at UPCF. Her past experiences in sports, weightlifting, and the community have served as a great foundation for Morgan to build enjoyable and beneficial workouts for those who train with her.

ThumbWorks brings professional sports massage to the athletic community. We specialize in working with athletes of all levels in both team and individual sports such as CrossFit, Biking, Running, Olympic and Power Lifting, Mixed and Traditional Martial Arts, to name a few. We work with each athlete to optimize functional movement patterns and athlete recovery. We will assess each athlete’s mobility, range of motion, and tissue condition to tailor sessions to your needs.

RYAN KEEP

I started out as a part time CrossFit coach while still active duty in the Air Force and still have a few years until I retire. Due to a relocation, I have turned my focus to mobility and massage to help others perform better in their sport and be pain free. I thoroughly enjoy working with people and their body mechanics to improve all functional movements. Outside of working, I do enjoy few other sports such as rock climbing, skydiving and recently began Jiu-Jitsu.

TANYA CROOKS

Prior to a career in massage, I was in the Air Force Reserves for 6 years, and have a background working in the Social Services world. I graduated the National Holistic Institute of Massage Therapy in Sacramento, California and received my title of Certified Massviage Therapist (Cert ID#72684). I am also certified in Rock Tape's IASTM and Kinesiology Taping. When I'm not with clients and going to school, I really enjoy taking road trips with my family, finding new food and coffee places, Crossfitting, rock climbing, laughing at funny animal videos, and being a homebody.

GET STARTED

WHAT IS CROSSFIT?
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that improves overall fitness through functional movements, such as squatting or running. These movements include gymnastics, Olympic lifting, powerlifting, and other aerobic and anaerobic exercises. Workouts are incredibly varied, meaning no daily routine or potential for boredom. CrossFit scales to your fitness level and welcomes all ages.
HOW DO I BEGIN?

Step 1

If there's one thing we're sure of, it's that your journey into Upper Park CrossFit as a strength and conditioning program will be life changing. To begin, please contact us to arrange a FREE consultation. This will take about one hour. You'll meet your trainer and be introduced to the gym and the philosophy behind how we program. We'll then start with some personal training. This evaluation will help us carefully assess where you are at, in a personal setting. The number of sessions new members need are based on the individual's current level of fitness and knowledge of CrossFit movements. Generally speaking, anyone new to a CrossFit program, without prior professional instruction, will need anywhere between 6-12 sessions before entering classes.

Step 2

After you complete our free consultation, we will begin our Fundamentals Program. We created this program for three reasons:

  1. It's no secret that CrossFit is technical and requires time and practice. We will take the time to properly instruct you of the movements necessary to feel confident and safe before starting your first class. Just as it would not make sense to place a bystander on a football team, your first CrossFit experience should not be in a class of 10+ athletes performing barbell snatches or handstand push-ups.
  2. Personal training allows us to address your individual needs and limitations. We will train at a pace that works for you, scale exercises accordingly, and prepare you for long term success.
  3. We believe the relationships with the people in our gym are important, including the one with your trainer. You will be spending a lot of time here, for that reason we want to know you, your obstacles and challenges, and your goals, so we can better serve you and help you reach success.

Step 3

Once you have completed our Fundamentals Program you may attend our classes! These classes are held throughout the day, so you're sure to find a time that works for you. Our classes will build upon the strength and skills you acquired from personal training. You'll meet other like-minded individuals, and together we will push one another to our goals.

We welcome all travelers and drop-ins from out of town, however we please ask that you..

1. Contact us at least 24 hours in advance to schedule which class you will be attending.

2. Have the coach or owner of your current CrossFit program call or email us to let us know how long you have been doing CrossFit, and if there are any limitations we should be aware of.

DO YOU OFFER CHILD CARE?
Our "Kids Zone" is NOT supervised by staff, but is safe, separate and viewable from the rest of the gym. The Kids Zone is free of charge.
